Abstract

One purpose of the heat treatment process is for hardening steel (hardening), which is the process ofheating the steel to a temperature at or above the county critical areas followed by rapid cooling calledquench, (Djafrie, 1995). Due to the steel hardening process, the onset voltage in the (internal stress), whichwill increase the violence but sometimes resulted in steel becomes brittle (britlle), particularly at highcarbon steel.This study discusses the extent to which variations in the cooling medium effect on the increase intensile strength of medium carbon steel (AISI 1045). So if known level of its strength and kesesuainyacomparison to the application and its use, it can be taken a decision to use the quench process in the rightmedia, in order to save time and cost of production. Further assessment of the impact factor differencesquench media, can be done through testing of materials. The test material used is testing the tensile strength
