Abstract

The use of inorganic fertilizer in long run can affect the soil structure which inturn to reduce fertility and crop production. Because it can disrupt balance ofmicroorganism and suppress growth of usefull microbes. The use of organic fertilizer canimprove soil conditions become fertile and rich in beneficial microorganism. Thisresearch was conducted at Experimental Garden Faculty of Agriculture University ofPasir Pengaraian for 6 months. Beginning in August 2013 to January 2014. This researchaims to determine the effect of several types of organic fertilizer on the growth andproduction of watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris Schard). The experimental designconducted is Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The treatments were P0=withoutfertilizer, PC=Liquid fertilizer, PKM=Compost fertilizer, PKN=Manure fertilizer. Eachtreatment was repeated three times. Data were analyzed by using Statistical AnalysisSystem (SAS). Furthermore, any significant treatment performed Duncan’s MultipleRange Test to see the different in each treatment at level of 5% (P=0.05). The resultshowed that addition of several types of organic fertilizers significantly affect plantgrowth of watermelon, with variable such as stem length, leaf quantity and plant dryweight. But the type of fertilizer treatment had no significant effect on plant growth.
