Abstract

The objectives of the research  were: (1) described the internal and external characteristics of respondents that underlie the formation of communication networks, (2) analyzed communication networks in processing land without burning in Labuhan Tangga Kecil village and Rantau Bais village  Rokan Hilir regency. Data used in this research are primary data and secondary data. The  population  are oil palm farmers who processed their land by burning and the respondent determined by using the snowball sampling with the criteria  that farmers had process land by burning and now process the land without burning. The result of the research  indicate that the characteristics of the respondents in the two villages in the study locations had moderate characteristics because their characteristic values were still varied between high and low. The second research objective was to analyze the communication  networks  in processing land without burning in Labuhan Tangga Kecil village and Rantau Bais village  Rokan Hilir regency, and  the  results showed that the communication network formed in Labuhan Tangga Kecil village are interlock personal network and Rantau Bais village are radial personal network.
